The CitiObs Knowledge Platform: A New Hub for Citizen Science

Citizen science projects create a wealth of data, tools, and experiences. But this knowledge often remains scattered, making it hard to learn from each other or reuse results. To help address this, the CitiObs project has been working together with 35 observatories across Europe to shape the Knowledge Platform (KP).

Unlike traditional repositories, the KP is designed to be interactive. It is not just a place to find resources, but a space where practitioners, researchers, and citizen scientists can explore methods, exchange insights, and contribute their own documentation.

All documentation is stored on GitHub, making it possible for both professionals and citizen scientists to improve and expand the materials. This openness ensures that knowledge is continuously updated and enriched by the community.

On the platform, visitors can find toolkits for starting or strengthening a Citizen Observatory, guidance and methods to improve the quality, interoperability, and analysis of citizen-generated environmental data, and stories and lessons shared directly from the field. It also provides opportunities to connect with others, to exchange advice and practical experiences, and to build on the collective expertise of the wider community.

The Knowledge Platform is now live. Explore it here to discover resources, tools, and stories and join in shaping how citizen science knowledge grows and circulates.
