Every breath we take connects us to our communities, to the places we live, and to the quality of the air that surrounds us. On September 7, the world marks the International Day of Clean Air for Blue Skies: a global reminder that clean, healthy air is essential for life, and a human right.
At CitiObs, together with our network of Citizen Observatories, we’re working across European cities to empower people to monitor local air quality using affordable sensors and collaborative tools. These community-led efforts are turning invisible problems into visible, actionable data.
In CitiObs we want to help Citizen Observatories with sensors, open-source platforms, and creative engagement strategies. We are building toolkits that support environmental monitoring, inclusive participation, community storytelling, and co-creation with decision-makers.
The International Day of Clean Air For Blue Skies reminds us that air pollution is both a local and a global challenge, and that citizen observatories are essential allies in the journey towards clean air.
