SMESH (MAPAIR)
The S-MESH (MapAir) Tool turns scattered air quality measurements from Citizen Observatories into detailed maps that support analysis and decision-making. Focused on PM2.5, it works at both European and local scales.
At the European level, a machine learning model combines satellite data, existing air quality models, and citizen-sensor networks (like Sensor.Community and PurpleAir) to produce hourly PM2.5 maps at 1 km resolution. For cities and communities, MapAir applies advanced interpolation methods to create accurate, high-resolution local maps.
By bridging raw sensor readings with large-scale insights, MapAir improves the usability of citizen data, helps detect errors, and delivers decision-ready environmental information.
