DSS

About the tool
The DSS Tool is a web-based dashboard designed to help communities, researchers, and local authorities make informed decisions based on real-time environmental data. Developed using a user-centered design approach, the tool prioritizes usability, accessibility, and engagement. From early sketches to interactive prototypes, every stage of the DSS is shaped by user feedback to ensure it supports real-world needs.
The DSS provides a dynamic, web-accessible dashboard that visualizes real-time air quality and other environmental data using intuitive charts and maps. Users can interact with sensor data at a granular level, viewing individual readings without pre-aggregated summaries—offering deeper insights into local environmental conditions.
A standout feature of the DSS is its interoperability with STA and STAplus standards, allowing seamless integration of sensor data from multiple sources. Rather than using its own backend, the DSS connects with VirtualAir, promoting open, scalable, and standards-based data exchange. It also links with other CitiObs tools to provide a unified user experience.
Additional features include custom alerts and notifications for air quality changes, empowering communities to respond quickly. The tool emphasizes data transparency, user control, and actionable insight, making it an essential resource for citizen observatories and environmental monitoring projects.
